The first-ever Greater China Cup (GCC) was successfully held from January 1st – 3rd, 2016 in Shanghai, China. Taiwan’s U21 Men's Squad celebrated the new year by playing their best against China’s U21 Men's Team, Hong Kong’s U21 Men's Team, and FOGO Japan, a Japanese club team, in a single-round robin tournament system.
Playing in cold weather had been a challenge to the team at the start, but our boys adjusted to it quickly. In the first game against China, our squad played solid on both ends of the field and grabbed our first win of the year. In the second match against FOGO Japan, the difference in skill level and experience was noticeable from the beginning and the game ended up quite one-sided. However, our boys valued the experience against a tough team and made sure that they wouldn’t get shut out no matter what. Despite having a chance to compete in our last game, fatigue and a less than stellar effort from our team made us lose a precious opportunity to make the game close. Nevertheless, GCC gave our squad another opportunity to test their skills against some of the best in our region and provided us with more insight into what areas we need to continue to improve on.
Taiwan 9:3 China 9:3
Taiwan 1:27 FOGO Japan
Taiwan 1:7 Hong Kong
